Impact Story – A Farm Widow’s Story of Perseverance

Kola Rajini, lives with her two college-going children in the Geesugonda village of Telangana’s Warangal district. The widow of a farmer, she struggled to eke out a living from wage labour to support her family. Earning just Rs.150 for a day’s hard labour on neighbouring farms, she managed to save a small sum of money with which she planned to open a grocery store. With help from Sarvodaya Youth Organisation

and Rang De, she was able to avail a special category loan carrying a low rate of interest to raise the initial capital required. Once she had enough money in hand, Rajini was able to buy provisions for her store and also a refrigerator to store cold beverages, milk, curd etc.

We learnt that sales at the shop are regular, providing Rajini with an income on a daily basis. These steady earnings gave her the means to upgrade her store to a bangle shop which has a good collection of glass, metal and plastic bangles of various colors on display. She reported that the bangle business gives her a monthly income of approximately Rs.4500 while the grocery store brings in Rs.7000 per month. Rang De’s intervention has truly been helpful in uplifting Rajini’s financial position. Previously, she used to deposit Rs.100 per month in her SHG but post the loan, she is able to save Rs.2000 in a chit fund every month. She also told us that she is now able to pay her children’s college fees without defaulting, a welcome change from the past.

Your support has been instrumental in bringing about an impact in Rajini’s life. Thank you for contributing to her loan and giving her the opportunity to improve her financial circumstances.
